Hagio Moto is an author who has mainly drawn for the Shogakukan publishing house in the field of shĆjo manga, the female manga. Awarded more than twelve prizes and decorations in Japan and internationally, she is one of the most important contributors in the history of manga.
Known outside Japan as a pioneer of the boys' love genre with The Heart of Thomas, she is especially appreciated in Japan for her science fiction works such as We are Eleven! or Barbara Ikai. Most of her works focus on the theme of the dysfunctional family, with a strong psychologization of her characters.
