The Hyakki yakō (百鬼夜行, meaning "The Night Parade of 100 Demons") is a belief in Japanese folklore. According to this tradition, every year yōkai storm the streets during summer nights. All who cross this procession die unless protected by a sutra.
Toriyama Sekien is a Japanese ukiyo-e artist who specializes in the traditional tales and legends of Japan. His work in recording yōkai led to the creation of the Hyakki Yakō series.
